Early Christmas present
The day before Christmas eve, takyubin guy rang my doorbell (or it could be St. nick) and guess what he brought me… my new Tokyo Marui M4 SOPMOD!!!
Here are my first impressions of my Christmas present”
The box is colored dark grey and the inside is OD. The AEG’s finish is flawless which is very consistent of Marui products. It weighs about 3.2 kg (without battery and mag) which is lighter compared to the M4 RIS. The gun is secured to the box with a velcro strap.
I chronoed it and its firing at 85 m/s. It’s kind of disappointing but with the recoil connected to the internal I wonder how it would affect your internals having a stiffer spring inside. The rate of fire is impressive considering the battery is only 8.4v.
Changing battery is a snap, it’s like changing mag. Can easily be changed while under fire. And by the way, if you ordered the battery charger like me, cancel it or don’t buy the battery charger. The unit came with a connector to accommodate new design of the battery.
The box came with an 82 round magazine, although there's no mention on the manual that it can be converted to a 30 round mag.
The RIS looks slimmer compared to the M4RIS. Gas tube is visible from the outside. The lower panel fits into place more better again compared to the M4RIS which in my experience is a little bit loose. New delta ring designs on the inside and the outer barrel looks like it is one piece. This is good news to TM M4 lovers who hated the wobbly barrels of TM M4s.
By removing the forward pin, you can easily slide the upper receiver. The charging handle stays with the gearbox. And there is an identifiable Marui logo on the gearbox. So far this is as far as I would on opening it. I would wait for some experts advise first before totally doing the internals. From what I read on the manual, the electrical assembly on the buttstock is a little bit complicated (for me that is).
Hop chamber is also new design together with the gearbox.
And best part of the all the… the BLOWBACK… WOW! It is comparable to the recoil of the WA GBB. Having fired the WA a couple of times, I would say the feel is almost identical, but since I don’t own a WA GBB, I could be wrong.
All in all… I would say… my money was well spent! I'll be using this on the next game (10th of Jan). Merry Christmas!
